We need to come together in the education of the islands high school aged students. All 3 communities can bring something to the table here, Newport has an amazing and expanding vocational school that more students could surely benefit from.

It's time to have discussion with open ears, minds and hearts. Stop judging, step out of fear of change, and LISTEN!

This discussion started years ago when over 90 Middletown parents, teachers and the school committee came together to study best use of facilities, reorganization and possible merging with Newport or Portsmouth. An outside consultant was hired to assess the Middletown schools and offered possibilities on many levels. We met for months! We don't have to start from scratch. Information is already there that can be reviewed to offer insight.

Our kids deserve better - during the time of the study I mentioned to a well known person in the Middletown community, that our kids need to be able to compete on a national and global level. The "influencer' responded with, "Our little kids from Middletown? Why do they have to compete on that level? They don't need to!" My heart just sank. What small-minded thinking! Every single thing we do and say is energy which affects not just our communities but other communities too. Our kids deserve the best education possible and yes, that means being able to compete locally, nationally and globally.
Let's get the discussion started!

An open-minded dialogue is needed. Where is the harm in a cost benefit analysis of a merger?

An open discussion would be or might be beneficial to students in both schools.

this discussion is not just about cost effective ways to deliver existing school experience’s , but Bold out of the box ways to offer far more compelling experiences for our students, something their parents , our citizens , are demanding.

It's crazy to have so many districts for so few students. Combining districts would bring many more options for students.
