Makenzi McDermott started this petition to Mid Valley School District

Mid Valley is the only school district in the area who hasn’t allowed their students to experience a snow day in this school year. We have experienced a horrible year with some students feeling depressed, falling behind, and having a bad experience. COVID has changed everything, we understand but COVID hasn’t changed what it means to be a kid.

We have just received the most snow in 5 years according to GMA’s Chief Meteorologist. Kids don’t want to be trapped inside looking at a screen all day that strains and worsens their eyesight when they could be outside having fun with their family and friends. This would be incredibly beneficial to everyone. Kids could get some exercise, teachers can have fun outside with their family and catch up on some grading, and students can catch up on work without having the stress of doing that days assignments.

Valley View is a completely virtual school district due to the pandemic and has decided their students should be able to experience the snow. Dunmore is also giving their students the day off. That’s just a few in this area.

Now on a personal level, when you were young you may have gotten to experience a snow day. Those snow days may be some of the best memories you have held as a child. Kids today cannot experience that and won’t be able to tell their kids about the snow days they experienced as a child.

I implore you to please give the Mid Valley Students a snow day.
