Roland Spottiswoode started this petition to Mid and East Antrim Borough Council Planning committee

People and friends of Larne, Millbrook, Kilwaughter and East Antrim, we urgently require your support. A large area of outstanding natural beauty and historical interest is under threat of being permanently destroyed.

An application has been submitted to attach the existing Kilwaughter quarry by a new road to a proposed vast new quarry development that would create a blot on the local countryside, destroy good farmland, endanger the flow of natural spring water from the hill and run close to a number of listed buildings; this includes the ruins of Kilwaughter Castle with its ancient graveyard and Norman remains.

The existing quarry already creates considerable disturbance in this established rural community, with a recent sizeable increase in blasting that threatens local homes. The proposed quarry would be immediately adjacent to a number of dwellings  as it painfully clear from the site plans proposed.

We need your support to prevent this violation of our local countryside, which is disappearing all too quickly. Challenges to this application must be registered as soon as possible as the proposal is currently under consideration by the local East and Mid-Antrim council, so please act today!
