Mid-America Council: Denounce Anti-Gay policy of BSA

I would ask that the Mid-America Council of the BSA openly Denounce the Anti-Gay policy of the head of the BSA. I am from Omaha, Ne and will soon be welcoming my first son to our home. I was a scout from Tiger Cubs all the way up to Life Scout(one level shy of Eagle) and I had always hoped that if I had a son I could take him to scouts the same way that my father took me. It is one of the things that has shaped my life and made me the person I am today, but for as much good as they do I cannot support them as long as they are denying boys entrance/removing them and removing good leaders because of their sexual orientation.

Boy Scouts is meant to teach boys about integrity, fairness, and the importance of hard work. It is meant to build character by teaching boys how to not only follow directions, but also to lead when the time is right, among many lessons too numerous to count. The sexual orientation of a person has zero to do with any of these things and its disheartening that anyone would think differently in 2012. We as a society need to stand up with a singular voice and make it abundantly clear that discrimination, bigotry, and hatred have no place in our midst.

The Boy Scouts do many good things and at the core is a great organization, but until they rescind their homophobic, exclusionary policy on sexual orientation they are doing a dis-service to all boys they contact by teaching them that its okay to discriminate as long as its against people you don't agree with.
