Spreading Awareness to Homelessness
Spreading Awareness to Homelessness
Why this petition matters
There are approximately 100 million homeless people in the world; in America, there are about half a million people who are homeless. As the poverty rate (25.7%) in Philadelphia is the highest among the nation’s 10 largest cities, one can expect to see that impact people’s ability in accessing affordable housing. In these past couple of years, with covid especially, the financial situation of families all across the city has been exacerbated, but families aren’t the ones visible to the naked eye on the streets of this city. Instead, single individuals can be seen sleeping in subway stations, trains, on the sidewalk, and even in areas on Drexel’s campus. But what is done about this problem? What is done to help these individuals..by people like you and me..by the university..by the city of ‘Brotherly Love’? Why is it that seeing someone sleep on the sidewalk, occupying the small area in which steam is released from a manhole (on campus) ignored, normalized even?
