The virus is spreading all over U.S rapidly with 11 deaths among 159 ppl infected. While there is evidence shows that more people infected but not tested yet since the capcity of testing agencies is about 400 specimens a day. We should take action before virus comes to us instead of waiting for it to spread out after spring break. Therefore, I suggest closing campus temporarily is an essential thing to do.

How COVID-19 spreads?

  1. Person to person, imagine sitting in a classroom of 300 students.
  2. Coughs or sneezs, which means face masks are important. However, there's not a single face mask left in stock in Lansing.
  3. Contact with surfaces and object, which means virus from past sessions could still survive and infect people in the next session.

Something important is: People might spread coronavirus 14 days-24 days before they show symptoms, everyone is potential.

Fatality rate of COVID-19:

It is 6.91% at this point in U.S and 3% around the world. China has just lowered the rate to 0.86% in cities except Wuhan after one month closing down of all infrastructures. We should stay safe until CDC has enough testing kits, face masks, goggles and treatments for everyone.

What we supposed to do:

Based on opinions from students in other countries that suffered from it and their countries' experience, we ask Dr. Samuel L.Stanley Jr, the president of Michigan State University(appreciate your well-done work last year) to close campus and starts online classes until everything is under control(Yeah, credits still need to be awarded).

Fellow students: Please wear face masks, just like wearing condoms: it's good for both of us. Don't touch mouths or eyes with unwashed hands. May you have a great spring break!
