Keep white supremacist and neo nazi Richard Spencer out of Michigan State University
This petition had 2,600 supporters
Michigan State University is currently reviewing a request for white supremacist hate group NPI (National Policy Institute) and president Richard Spencer to visit MSU's campus in September 2017. Two other universities, Texas A&M and the University of Florida were both contacted by Spencer- and both universities denied his request to speak on their campuses (see Detroit Free Press story.) In light of the horrible and deeply concerning events at Charlottesville it is unacceptable for Michigan State to allow such hateful speech on campus. Two other universities in the nation had no problem shutting down Spencer and his white supremacist group, there is no reason why Michigan State shouldn't also condemn this event from happening. Please sign this petition to show your support in not welcoming the NPI and Richard Spencer on campus. By signing this, you are showing support for people of color, foreign exchange students, and allies on the campus of Michigan State University. In a setting where students are supposed to focus on studies and extracurriculars, hosting a hate speech on campus will only deter from student's education and will set back our progress as a diverse college. The distractions from this potential event have the power to upset students and even lead them to believe that they are not safe on their own campus. Furthermore, it would be tragic in the event that violent outbursts, such as those from Charlottesville, occur on Michigan State's campus. Signing this petition can make a difference and will show the faculty at Michigan State that we stand together as allies and refuse to let hate speech divide our campus culture.
