- I believe every veteran that has anything other than a dishonorable discharge and you hold a job that we should have the right to have veterans day off. I believe it should also have to be paid, if you want to work that day your employer should have to pay you double time seems how you would be working on a holiday. All government buildings, banks, and post offices get the day off so why not working veterans. Veterans would not only use the day off just to relax from everyday work stress but our veterans also can use this day off as a time to reflect an reconnect with other service members that they have met befriended and may have lost along the way. For example there are many parades and ceremonies that veterans would love to attend but can't due to having to be at work or face a penalty or have to use up one of there vacation days to attend these important events. For example being able to visit Arlington national cemetery and the ceremonies they put on for our fallen veterans or even such events as just walking in your local veterans day parade in a community near you. I've personally lost 3 friends while I severed in the United States marine corps from 2007 till 2011. I believe the michigan state senate an the michigan house of representatives could help propel this petition into the forefronts because I believe that veterans day is just as important as any of our other holidays.
