Protect Our Children - Prevent Guns, Gun Parts and Ammunition from minors.
My son was in Oxford High School on November 30, 2021. I never want any other school, child, teacher, parent, or anyone else to go through what we are going through. No teenager should have to attend funerals for their classmates, teammates, or best friend. No parent should have to lay their child in their final resting place. Read this and imagine that any of the students in that building that day were your son, daughter, grandchild etc. You never want this to happen to them!
I am NOT about to request people have their right to bear arms taken away from them. Many of friends and family members that have guns. I am asking for prevention, safety and less fear in our state, our community and our homes.
Below is taken out of the Michigan legislature publication on firearms.
(There is one phrase that needs to be changed and become a law.-Proper storage of a gun should never be recommended it should be a MUST, a demand, an enforceable law! I am requesting that every gun owner have MULTIPLE steps in place to keep guns and ammunition out of the hands of children. )
"Firearm ownership carries with it a responsibility of safeguarding the welfare of others and you when handling firearms. Accident prevention is the userís responsibility. It is the responsibility of a firearm owner to know what the law is pertaining to ownership, possession, transportation and use of firearms. A firearm should always be unloaded when not in use and the ammunition stored separately from the firearm. It is generally recommended that the cylinder assembly of a revolver and the barrel assembly of a semi-automatic be removed from the frame for long- term storage. Both the ammunition and the firearm should be stored in a safe place out of the reach of children. You may be criminally and civilly liable for any harm caused by a person less than 18 years of age who lawfully gains unsupervised access to your firearm if unlawfully stored. As such, a trigger lock, gun case or other device designed to prevent unauthorized access to a firearm is strongly recommended." (Not Recommended - but mandatory)!
I also would like stronger laws on purchasing gun parts and ammunition on the internet. There is no way to properly verify that you are not selling to a minor.
For the community of Oxford, the 4 victims that lost their lives, the 7 injured, and the almost 1800 students, many teachers and staff terrorized and their families -Please do everything in your power to prevent this from happening again!
