Andrew Robinson started this petition to Michigan State House and

Michigan has the highest vehicle registration fees in the country. The state determines the cost based on the value of your vehicle. We are the only state to use this method to determine the cost. My personal registration fee for 2019-2020 is $264. Yes, you read that right, $264. Why? Where does all of this money go? The government may say it goes to roads, public safety, etc., but does it really? Why are some people paying higher than others, simply based on the vehicle they drive? There is no way this money goes to fix our roads, they're always broken and full of potholes. Why can't we, the people of Michigan, pay a flat, fixed rate like the rest of the country? Georgia residents pay $20 per year, Delaware pays $40 per year, Connecticut pays $80 for two years. Other states in the Midwest still pay much lower fees than Michigan, and they experience winters similar to ours. Ohio pays $34.50, Indiana pays $21.35, Minnesota pays $35. Why are states that have the same winters and better road maintenance, paying as little as 10% of the amount that we pay? It's time for change. It's time for Michigan residents to stop getting robbed each year just for purchasing a little colored sticker that goes on your license plate.
