One course on "Race & Racism" at Wayne State changed my life.  I took it as an elective- as it was not mandatory as an Urban Studies major. You read that right: a course on race and racism was NOT a requirement for my Urban Studies Degree, which I achieved in 2019.

Why are students mandated to participate in multiple foreign language courses at Wayne State University, but not required to complete a course on "Race & Racism" before graduation?

It is time for a change. 

Wayne State prides itself on being an "urban" university. What are we doing as students, professors- all Michiganders- to create a pathway for change? We can frame out that pathway and sign this petition making it mandatory for ALL Wayne State University graduates to complete "AFS 2600: Race &Racism in America" before a degree is issued.
