It has been announced that the beloved Bastard Monks are being removed from the list of performers at the Michigan Renaissance Festival. Citing low attendance at their performances and suspected concerns regarding content, they were fired last year. They've had to fight to be allowed to perform for this current 2021 festival season and have an opportunity to say goodbye. This information is straight from a performance of theirs I saw. I openly admit I don't know many details other than what I've shared here, but it makes me sad and I want to try and support their continued presence at our Faire. Sure, they are immature. Yeah, they are vulgar. But, they aren't the only performers to fit that description and their performances are always packed. They provide ample warning before the show that it is not appropriate for children and continuously remind people not to bring children. I've seen them refuse to start a show until children were removed from the audience. Yes, Renfest is family friendly, but it's also raunchy in many ways and with proper warning, the adults should be allowed to take in less than PG content. Please help me in supporting and saving the Monks!
