The current Michigan fireworks law allows the use of fireworks in neighborhoods and residential areas that create a near "war zone" environment during holiday periods. This causes extreme distress for some veterans, small children and pets. In addition, this unregulated use of fireworks creates danger of injury to residents and damage to property. The current Michigan law prohibits local communities from regulating this behavior to protect their citizens and should be changed.
