Michigan: Help Uninsured Residents Get Coverage for Heart Health
Did you know that Medicaid is an important source of health insurance coverage for patients with heart disease, stroke, and other cardiovascular diseases? In the United States, 53% of current adult Medicaid beneficiaries, or 16 million people, have a history of cardiovascular disease or stroke. Help uninsured Michigan residents get coverage for cardiovascular health by signing this petition.
Studies have shown that Medicaid beneficiaries with heart disease are twice as likely to take their medication properly, compared to those who are uninsured. Also, those with Medicaid coverage are more likely than the uninsured to have been checked for high cholesterol and are more likely to be taking steps to control their blood pressure, two important risk factors for cardiovascular disease.
In June the state House of Representatives passed House Bill 4714, legislation that would implement significant reforms to the state’s Medicaid program while providing coverage to thousands of Michiganders. The legislation passed with bipartisan support on a 76-31 vote.
Help the American Heart Association pass Medicaid reform in Michigan. Sign this petition to ask your Senator to support Medicaid reform that will provide coverage to 470,000 currently uninsured Michigan residents.
