Amend Michigan's alternative dissection law to include colleges and universities
This petition had 48 supporters
Current Michigan law requires schools at the elementary, middle and high school level to offer alternatives to in-class animal dissection. However, there is no legislation requiring colleges and universities to offer students an alternative to hands-on animal dissection.
Michigan should enact legislation requiring all Michigan colleges and universities to offer alternatives to animal dissection.
We are not trying to eliminate dissection, but simply require all colleges and universities in Michigan to offer students an alternative assignment, such as a computer program, video disc set or a physical model.
In order to make this change happen, we will collect signatures and send this petition to Michigan Governor Rick Snyder and Michigan Department of Education State Superintendent Brian J Whiston.
The current law, which covers elementary, middle and high schools was adopted on May 13, 2014. It can be viewed here: https://www.michigan.gov/documents/mde/FINAL_Policy_Dissection_Choice_456675_7.pdf
