Everyone knows the Michigan State flag sucks. A good flag should represent its place of origin without explicitely stating what that place is. The current Michigan flag is the state seal on a blue background, similar to many other states. Imagine if the United States as a whole had the country seal as it's flag. It would be the punchline of even more America jokes. 

In other countries, each area has unique flags to represent their history and their identity, so why do US states insist on keeping their seals as flags. 

Pros:

- More state pride with a more identifiable banner

- Potential for money made from merch containing the state flag (Colorado and California have tons of merch based on their flag, have you ever seen a Michigan flag shirt?)

- Having a distinct flag that is not a copy of half the other state flags. 

Cons:

- Literally none, all of the money that would be spent on this would be made back from merchandise sales. I would even be willing to design a flag for free!

There is no reason to not sign this petition. If you like the state seal, that's fine, it's not going anywhere. Having a distinct and recognizable flag gives people a feeling of unity, and the current flag gives people a feeling of big government.
