Gabby Flowers started this petition to Michigan Government and

I am Gabrielle Flowers a senior at Airport High school in Monroe county this year. I was recently accepted to Central Michigan University where I earned at 25% merit scholarship based off of my gpa of last year. The issue with this is that it was only the GPA of my first semester. As the second semester did not count. I was in two AP classes and doing well in all my other classes which would have significantly raised my GPA. Therefore I finished the school year with a 3.5 but doing the calculations and counting the second semester I would have finished with 3.7-3.8. I reached out to the administration of my school about this as it affected numerous seniors and not just me and they said they can not do anything as a state mandated the second half not counting. I also reached out to central and explain the situation and they said they can only go based on the GPA submitted in my transcript. Central said the school could alter the gpa and resubmit it however the state will not allow Airport to do that. As I said before this is affecting many students in across Michigan. It is not fair to us that we worked very hard and for it to not count. College is a great amount of money and students who have worked hard in high school expecting the reward should not suffer. Therefore the Michigan representatives, senators, and governor need to allow schools the right to adjust students gaps to count the second semester of the 2019-2020 school year. Please take this into consideration and try and do justice for the 2021 seniors who have already missed out on so much due to COVID-19. The least the state can do for us is allow our second semester to count so we have a higher scholarships to better ourselves for our futures. Please sign this petition and get the attention of the Michigan government!
