Immigration Nation Celebration

We petition Michelle Obama and Sen Harry Reid to lobby President Barack Obama to shine a bright and lasting light on the bedrock of this country, immigrants and refugees, by declaring by executive order, a national holiday in honor of all who have built this nation. We are all immigrants (or descendants of) for political or economic reasons, forced or free. Immigrants have always been the backbone and the muscle of this nation but have been ignored, degraded and abused. Now they have been made the primary scapegoat by the incoming administration and their supporters. It is time to recognize their importance to this country by starting a national holiday on Jan 23, 2017, and every 4th Monday of Jan after that.
We, as an affluent, powerful and influential nation have many designated federal and state holidays but not one to honor the very builders of this great country.
We ask President Obama to do the most patriotic of acts by honoring the foundation of this nation with a day of celebration. We must send a strong message that immigrants as a vital part of America must be venerated, not vilified.
Time is short to send this message, the chances of an officially designated holiday before the end of the current administration slim. We would like to suggest that this start from the grass root level, with all who are immigrants or are in support of us, taking "the day off", not engaging in producing or consuming as a sign of unity and support on Jan 23, 2017
