Every Child a Theatre Goer

Every primary and secondary school child in Australia has the chance to go to the theatre free of charge. Some pupils in our schools have never been to the theatre and have never engaged in a live show. This is a priviledge that many students across the world get to be exposed to. So why are Australian pupils being left behind? The answer is simple, we simply do not have any initatives that will encourage the viewing of theatre. We can make that happen!
Research has shown that engaging in theatre can boost a child’s ability to learn other things. It can help to improve literacy, creativity and general intellectual development. Engaging in Drama and Theatre can help to develop a child’s:
- Self esteem as they learn new skills and make progress.
- Students who engage in theatre are 30% more likely to report good mental health.
- It introduces children to the magic of theatre and help to develop their learning in literacy, literature, creativity, issue based learning and citizenship.
We can provide the solution. Catching Dreams Theatre Company is petitioning to councils to engage in our 'Every Child is a Theatre Goer' initative. We are hopeful that they will pick up the mantle and make this initative their own. What we are suggesting is that councils allow every public school year 6 and 7 student in their electorate to attend one theatre show a year for FREE. Councils would pay for every child's ticket at a discounted rate offered by the theatres.
Catching Dreams Theatre Company is looking forward to collaborating with you, your organisation and your council. Thank you for your support.
