A fair amount of goldfish lose their lives either early on in their life or straight away when they are given out as prizes as fun-fairs. The vast majority of the general public are very misinformed on how big these fish are MEANT to get by media outlets such as films and TV shows. As such, the majority of people still believe they are happy in a small tank or bowl without a proper filtration system that can cause a lot of stress and damage to their beloved pets. There was a law that stopped fun-fairs giving these fish out in small bags but this does not stop the fun-fair organisers from doing this and even the small tubs that they are given out in are not suitable for these types of fish. The most common issues the goldfish usually get when they are given out as toys are ammonia burns and stunting, which can start immediately if they are not in proper conditions. I would advise anyone reading this to research these issues as well as information on the correct way to care for these fish if you did get them from a fun-fair.
