Mark Burges Watson started this petition to Michael Gove

Post Brexit the UK has a chance to reverse 70 years of damage to wildlife and the environment by changing its fishing and farming policies in a radical way. 50% of UK Species have suffered serious declines since 1970, and our biodiversity score is worse than Hong Kong according to the WWF!

Please support this petition for a new subsidy regime which would only provide agricultural subsidies for organic farming and sustainable fishing. Imagine the global marketing power of “Green Island” and “Organic Britain” logos on high end consumer food products. Think of hedgerows reconstructed, wildflower meadows re-sown, forests replanted and the sound of birdsong filling the air. Think of the employment created by sustainable fishing practices and a proper policy to link tourism, the food industry and agricultural planning rules in a new ‘Organic Britain’ subsidy plan which would ban the import of agricultural pesticides and fertilisers which pollute rivers, damage the soil, kill our wildlife and end up as trace toxins in our children.

Michael Gove please support a big bold vision for a Green Brexit which recognises the scale of the problem, addresses climate change, creates new employment and looks ahead to the welfare of future generations.
