Margie Timmers started this petition to Senator Michael F. Bennet

Hi. My name is Margie Timmers and I am 13 years old. My world was turned upside down when I read an article by the New York Times showing that there is a high possibility of a irreversible climate crisis by 2040 if we don’t act now. Ever since then, I have been to school strike for climate change events, organized a virtual earth day meeting for my middle school, and have worked to make my life more eco-friendly. Our world is dying right in front of us. We need to take steps towards a better future. One way to do that; stopping the over use of single-use plastic. Each straw, bowl, cup you get from a store or restaurant and throw away immediately after contributes to waste that makes us one step closer to killing our planet. I am asking for signatures to go to the state senate and ask for a ban on single use plastic. The people in our government don’t want to clean up the mess they made, so we have to for them. Thousands of pieces of trash that in non-biodegradable is floating in our oceans and covering our beaches just because we can’t walk 15 seconds to the recycling bin. By eliminating single use plastic, we make progress and take a large step towards a brighter future. Please add your name and join the act.
