The time has come for a change.

The citizens, students, friends and neighbors deserve better than the sub-par leadership that Mr.Thompson has provided this district and his latest attempts at breaking down the heritage and history of the district in which we have all come to know and love. On August 17th, MR.Thompson boldly proclaimed that "I am the one who made the decision "to remove the beloved Rebel as the school's longstanding mascot. This decision was done without any consideration of the students, faculty, staff, graduates and residents input. None. Zip. Zero. Zilch !!!! Had this decision been something that was talked about among the community, and possibly even voted upon by the people as a whole, the backlash would of been minimal at best. But instead Mr.Thompson decided n his own, in a moment of weakness, to jump to conclusions and react in a cowardly way.

Unfortunately, that is just the tip of the iceberg here with Mr.Thompson. He was arrested by Chester Township Police officers May 17 2014 and charged with OVI. Yes... That's right.. The person in charge with setting the moral compass for our students was caught only having "a few beers" and then getting behind the wheel. What kind of judgement does this show? How do we know this was his only time getting behind the wheel intoxicated? Do we know he has not continued this and made the mistake again? Is this the example we want to set for the students in Willoughby-Eastlake Schools?

Even if you are willing to look past all of the other reasons for Mr.Thompson's removal, you can not argue with simple facts. Recently, WE Schools received a failing rating of 4 OUT OF 10 from the watchdog group GreatSchools.org. Even the State of Ohio has given the district horrible marks in many areas. They are listed here:

ACHIEVEMENT - This component represents the number of students who passed the state tests and how well they performed on them.                                             WE SCHOOLS EARNED A "D"

GAP CLOSING - This shows how well our schools are meeting the performance expectations of our most vulnerable populations of students in English, Language Arts, Math and overall graduation.                                                                           WE SCHOOLS EARNED A FAILING GRADE OF AN "F"

K-3 LITERACY - This indicates how successful the school is at getting struggling readers on track to proficiency in third grade and beyond.                                      WE SCHOOLS EARNED A "D' GRADE

PREPARATION FOR SUCCESS - This component looks at how well prepared students are for future success.                                                                               WE SCHOOLS EARNED A "D" GRADE AS WELL

These stats and ratings came from Ohio's School Report Card website itself.

So, our kids are NOT PASSING the required state minimum tests, are NOT LITERATE TO THE THIRD GRADE, are NOT PREPARED FOR SUCCESS and last of all, the gap for our weakest students is increasing. This all points to a SUB PAR job of our leadership.

A change needs to come from top down. And, as Mr.Thompson was proud of himself for saying, he made the change on August 17th.

Now it is our turn to make another change.
