In 2002 Miami-Dade Voters were promised a Fare-Free Metromover by County Officials as part of the campaign to pass the half-penny transportation surtax. The surtax passed and has been in effect for the past 13 years to date, so has the Fare-Free Metromover. On February 11, 2015 the Miami Dade Transit and Mobility Service Committee passed a Motion calling for the reinstatement of Metromover Fares and now the Board of Miami Dade County Commissioners will consider  amending SECTION 29-124 OF THE CODE OF MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, FLORIDA BY ELIMINATING FARE FREE TRANSPORTATION.
