Eric Downey started this petition to MHSAA

This petition is to get signatures from individuals who agree that it should be the parents and children decision whether or not children should play sports rather than the state as a whole. We appreciate your concern with the health of our children during these crazy times, however as parents we have been accomplishing this task since their birth.
Continuing with year-round sports will help our children with their mental well-being, physical fitness and most importantly sportsmanship. As a disabled veteran of the U.S. Army I have seen first hand more than most what will break someones mental health down. This is a situation that can be avoided by coming up with a plan that allows us to continue on, and not swap the seasons. The kids NEED their back! Sports teach them accountability and responsibility while playing the games they love. Some even go on to get scholarships or coach themselves and now. These are some of the best times of their lives and we should be able to have the option to let them play or not. Our kids have already lost so much these last few months let’s not take anything else.
I’d like to get as many signatures as possible prior to the MHSAA making a decision regarding continuing or changing up the 2020/2021 seasons. For some kids this could potentially be there last chance to throw that ball, make that take down or land that flip. Let’s not take that opportunity away from them.
