MHC Against COVID-19 started this petition to MHC

Given the rapidly evolving impact of novel coronavirus (COVID-19) in new locations across the globe, including in the U.S. and here in Massachusetts, members of Mount Holyoke College have listed some suggestions to better protect MHC students, faculty member and staffs against COVID-19. Thank you in advance for reading!

1. Cancel or Reschedule In-person Gathering Events and Travel Plans

(1)Suspend parties in residential halls and student activities with 50 attendees or more.
(2)On-campus events which involve non-residential participants should be recorded, reevaluated its risks, and adjusted in accordance with safety issues.
(3)College-sponsored group trips should be canceled if the destination and its neighborhood areas have found test positive cases.
(4)Student organizations and sports teams, when organizing events that require traveling out of campus, should carefully evaluate the potential risks exposed to COVID-19 and make informative decisions.

2. Improve Warning System and Enforce Travel Registration Policy

(1)Inform Mount Holyoke community about COVID-19 by publicizing scientific facts about its transmission rate, transmission methods, and the possible effect it can have on the health infrastructure.
(2)Enforce travel registration policy to make sure those who travel to locations that are beyond 100 miles are properly recorded. We recommend the college to leverage all available communication channels and encourage professors, residential assistants and student organization leaders to help community members be aware of this policy.
(3)Develop a contingency plan, and keep community members updated. We are particularly interested in availability and accessibility of medical equipment such as disinfection supplies and test kits.

3. Take Rational Protective Measures While Avoiding Unnecessary Panic

(1)Encourage community members to be vigilant about cold/flu symptoms, and keep others informed. Take necessary protective measures and keep in touch with the health center if symptoms exacerbate.
(2)Encourage those who are more vulnerable (elderly, less immunocompetent, w/ other respiratory diseases etc) to take extra caution.
(3)Show understanding to those who take protective measures as the circumstance differs from person to person.
