Chicana and Chicano Studies (CCS) at the University of New Mexico (UNM) continues to respond to our community efforts toward social justice and the need for equity and inclusion in higher education. It is a dynamic growing program that draws on interdisciplinary, culturally relevant educational curriculum and research. In 2013, CCS established a Bachelor of Art’s degree. In 2016, CCS launched the first full online B.A. degree in C/CS. Also, in 2016, we launched the Early College High School Program Ethnic Studies Dual Enrollment Initiative.

While UNM as a whole is currently experiencing a decrease in student admission, Chicana and Chicano Studies maintains an average enrollment increase of at least 15%.

The Chicana and Chicano Studies Department currently has a Graduate Certificate and a MA/PhD proposal in the final stages of UNM approval. Provost Abdallah, Senior Vice Provost Wood, Associate Provost Lubin, Associate Provost Cheek, AVP Babbit of Enrollment Management and Director of Financial Operations Dopson – are the administrators who have the opportunity to approve.

April 24th, 2018 is the faculty senate deadline to approve the proposal for the 2018-2019 academic year. Any delay puts our timeline on hold. Please sign this petition so that the proposal is not put on hold.
