Why this petition matters

Started by Mia Moeller

Implementing composting into Mexico High School and the Hart Career Center is more environmentally friendly, economically viable, and educational.

What is composting?

Composting is a way to recycle organic materials without a recycling center that creates mulch substitute. Students would put organic materials (paper products, fruit, vegetables, etc.) into the composting bins, they would decompose naturally and then be re-purposed as mulch for the agriculture program and for school maintenance and landscaping.

Environmentally Friendly

These would be environmentally friendly, especially in these schools as they don't recycle, due to the lack of a recycling center in Mexico. This would allow those materials to decompose naturally, rather than end up in a landfill where they would produce methane and carbon emissions.

Economically Viable

Composting is a program that pays for itself, because it cuts down mulch and soil costs. After a few years of the program being implemented, the program can even yield comparative profits with how much is being spent on mulch and soil now.

Educational

Anyone who participates in this initiative will learn hands on about green waste disposal which is essential in modern society.

If you're interested in this cause and want to see a change in these schools, please consider signing this petition.
