Angela Johnson started this petition to Metropolitan Police and

Better rights for victims of historical sexual abuse. To be treated fairly and sensitively when reporting abuse to the police. For regular updates and information on progress of the case. Written information about support and help available. Greater priority to the needs and mental well-being of victims of historical abuse.
I was a victim of sex abuse as a young child. I never reported it as my abuser made me feel that It was normal and my own fault. I thought I was his only victim. 40 years later I found out I was not the only one, other close family members were also victims, they are now sadly deceased. Despite reporting this matter to the police 18 months ago, I am no further forward. A victims rights to review was conducted and handed back to the original investigating officer almost 6 months ago. Despite numerous requests by email for an update I have been completely ignored. My mental health is suffering, I have lost all confidence in the police. This is WRONG and change is needed to support historic victims of abuse. Our abusers are still out there and still pose a risk to society. Action is needed to recognise us and to punish our abusers and safeguard others. We should no be treated like a burden on resources and disregarded because our abuse is historic.
