TO GLEN EIRA CITY COUNCIL:

We demand that fixed steel bollards are installed wherever needed in areas where car parking faces directly towards busy shops.

Today, a driver plowed through the glassed shop front of IGA shopping centre, in Heather St, Bentleigh East.

This exact type of accident also happened at the same location in May 2021. Furthermore, a similar such accident occurred at IGA in Bentleigh on Patterson Road (21st July, 2021), and at Junto Cafe (18th March, 2021) on East Boundary Rd, opposite GESAC.

This is the second time someone has plowed through the Bentleigh East IGA front windows in recent times; a place where many thousands of Bentleigh and Bentleigh East residents shop regularly.

It is also a place where now many people no longer feel safe shopping, for fear they will be run over by a car failing to stop when parking.

We are demanding that metal safety bollards are urgently installed wherever parking for shops face directly at/towards shops, to protect the public from these avoidable accidents. 

We demand action before someone is killed.

The public's safety MUST be protected and this problem MUST be addressed urgently.
