***The uniform policy on the website has now been updated, outlined in winter and summer uniforms, and not distinguished by gender***

Mount Eliza Secondary College currently employs an outdated, and unnecessary uniform policy which several students are uncomfortable with. A number of us in senior school believe our current uniform policy is well overdue for reform.

There are currently limitations on the number of piercings allowed in each ear, no facial piercings allowed, no rings, no bracelets, no necklaces, no nail polish, and "light" natural makeup is the only form accepted.

We shouldn’t have to give up ourselves or our rights when we go to school, which is a place for learning and also a place to discover ourselves as people and what we mean to this world. Piercings and jewelry should be allowed. They show self-expression and creativity, and the school not allowing them disturbs the way in which we present ourselves. Mount Eliza secondary is an inclusive school environment, but this current policy is futile and repressive, it limits our ability to be who we want to be. We are allowed to feel comfortable and to express who we are and how we like to look or be represented.
