Change the food policy in the Merrick School District

We, the parents of students in the Merrick Union Free School District, would like our children to be allowed to bring (allergy friendly, as needed) snacks in any container, regardless of home made vs. store bought, or transferred from a large family size bag into a smaller size snack bag.
We would like food to be a part of Peace and Friendship Day, birthday celebrations, Health and Wellness Week, and assorted classroom units (gingerbread houses in K, 4th grade food from around the world, 6th grade gum experiments, etc.).
Food is common part of life and celebrations, and it is important to teach child how to incorporate it in a safe and respectful way for everyone.
