On the 9th September 2021 it was our son's first day at college studying catering. On his way home Mero went to get food with his friends. He was then chased by other youths in cars. On Norton Street in Trafford my son was murdered due to knife crime.

This has made a horredous impact on not only us his family but also his friends and the community aswell.

Rhamero had a heart of gold and had a beautiful smile. He was well mannered and always had respect for his elders. Rhamero was a popular boy who touched the hearts of many.

We need our voices heard ! If you carry a knife and get caught there needs to be an effective deterrent introduced... a caution is not good enough!!!

The youths of today need to think about what they are doing? Why are they doing it?

Companies on the internet, shops etc need to ask and check for ID before selling them to just anyone.

They are not just destroying their own lives but their family's, friends and the community.

Enough is Enough!!!

Put down the knives and save everyone's lives!!!

I am calling for the government to change the law relating to knife crime and carrying knives. The punishment at present for carrying a knife, as a first-time offender carries no minimum sentence and a one-year maximum sentence and is just a caution if you are under 16. In order to prevent a further rise in knife crime the law needs to be changed so an effective deterrent is introduced for first-time offenders.

More details

I want the UK Government to make carrying a knife and using a knife to carry a harsher sentence in order to deter youths from risking their lives and putting other lives in danger. I believe harsher sentences would ensure that possession numbers dropped, resulting in fewer stabbings being carried out. I propose that the sentences should be equal to those for carrying a firearm, regardless if it is a first offense or not.
