During the Summer of 2014 the Meridian Joint School District No. 2 is repainting Centennial High School's interior and exterior. Along with the repainting of the walls, two rooms that mean a lot to the environment and atmosphere of Centennial High School are being threatened to be repainted.
When someone walks into the art rooms at Centennial High School, they enter a room that has covered its walls with the art from previous alumni. Over the past 15 years, Centennial students have been releasing their creative minds on the walls and leaving inspiring messages and amazing works of art for everyone to enjoy.
Another room the School District is painting over is Centennial's Newspaper room. For over 15 years, it has been tradition for the graduating seniors in an editorial position to paint a brick with their name on it. By painting these bricks, it leaves behind a legacy for future students to follow and be inspired by. These bricks mark hard work and accomplishments made by students at Centennial. Traditions and work ethics like these should be embraced, not forgotten.
But despite these precious pieces of artwork and recorded legacies, the School District is painting over the walls in the Art room and the bricks in the Newspaper room when they repaint the entire school this summer. It is important to let them know that it is crucial to keep the murals and bricks around for the future classes held at Centennial. We have spent years creating a creative and artistically encouraging environment for students to work in and it would not only be a waste, but an opportunity missed for future students if they painted over it.
Please sign this petition to show the School District how much we care about creativity, art, and the learning environment we have at Centennial High School and pursuade them to keep the Art room and Newspaper room the way it is.
