Why this petition matters

Started by Meridian Student

"Mustang Block" is a 25-minute period whereby students can relax, converse, catch up on work, and take a short mental break. "Stable Group" is an entire class period allocated to aiding students mentally and academically using miscellaneous methods. The majority of "Stable Group" periods are used as study blocks or independent work periods in which students are assigned specific instructions or videos. Some "Stable Group" periods are, however, used as support groups in which students are educated on numerous issues pertaining to mental and physical health.

What this petition is proposing is Meridian High School changing its program so that the eighth block (or whenever "Stable Group" is transpiring) is free for students to use for another class. The purpose of this change is to make the best of the short four years secondary school provides in preparation for college. This change would allow students to have more flexibility in choosing their courses, reduce student stress, give students the opportunities to expand their horizons, and compel students to gain more academic independence and knowledge. Cumulatively, this decision would better prepare students for college than the current program the school provides.
