Help college students have access to remote mental health services on their college campuses by signing this petition and voting YES on AB-2122!

On February 14, 2022, Assembly Member Steven S. Choi introduced Assembly Bill-2122, titled Public postsecondary education: Mental health hotlines: Student identification cards. If passed, the bill would authorize each campus of the California State Universities CSU, Universities of California UC, and California Community Colleges CCC post-secondary education systems in the state to establish a campus mental health hotline for students to access mental health services remotely

It would be required that campus mental health hotline numbers be printed on student identification cards beginning January 1, 2023. The bill also states that campuses without a hotline number should print the telephone number of their city or county’s mental health hotline. This bill would facilitate college students’ access to remote mental health services when needed.

Having a designated hotline printed on either side of the college student’s identification card, will raise awareness, and educate college students of available remote mental health services on their college campuses.

Help college students attain remote mental health services so they can combat mental health issues and successfully finish college. We ask YOU to sign this petition, so we can continue to support college students so they can receive remote mental health services on their college campuses.

Mental health affects many college students today. In 2020, the National Alliance on Mental Illness found that one in three young adults aged 18-25 have a mental illness. Also, suicide is the 2nd leading cause of death in people ages 10-34 and 90% of people who die by suicide showed symptoms of a mental health condition. Untreated mental health conditions can negatively affect a student's quality of life, decrease well-being, and physical health, and hinder their academic success.

There are many barriers to college students accessing mental health services. Students often are not aware of mental health services offered on their college campus. Other factors include an individual’s culture, gender, sexual identity, location, knowledge, stigma and perception of mental illness and treatment.

This bill does not take from anyone but instead promotes awareness and implements easier access to mental health treatment. Most colleges and universities automatically take an activities and health fee. Implementing the text of the bill ensures students get their money's worth, puts student wellbeing first, and is progress for mental health awareness.

We ask YOU to sign this petition and Vote “YES” on AB-2122
