Why this petition matters
Started by Abbigail Traynor
More than 1 in 3 high school students had experienced persistent feelings of sadness or hopelessness in 2019, a 40 percent increase since 2009. In 2019, approximately 1 in 6 youth reported making a suicide plan in the past year, a 44% increase since 2009. Taking mental health days — that is, time at home to rest and recharge — can be an important tool to help protect and manage mental health. And giving kids the chance to take them — within reason — can have big benefits. By signing this petition you are saying that the school board should allow students to take 4 mental health days a year, and allow for students to take breaks during the school year with these days.
