Action by MUN Psych and Behavioural Neuroscience Students to Hire a New Undergrad Advisor

With the retirement of our current undergraduate advisor, we would like to thank her long-term service in helping guide and direct students through their degree.

As an undergraduate student, finding information and answers to degree questions can be challenging. And as one of the largest undergraduate science faculties at Memorial University, our undergraduate advisor plays a fundamental role in student success within our department.

We are therefore concerned with the lack of immediate replacement to the position. With the absence of this position, many questions and concerns amongst students will either go unanswered or be shifted to other faculty members who already fulfill other demanding roles within our department.

The benefit of having a designated Academic Advisor is that students know exactly who and where to go for all of their academic needs. This person has a greater capacity to focus on the role of advising and devote more time and attention to the plethora of student questions and concerns. This role is an important position that requires more than a secondary focus from other faculty members; therefore we ask for the attention and efforts of the Science Faculty in seeking someone to fill this position.
