Stop 90% of women with a disability in care getting abused*

Calling all Members of the Victorian Parliament to take a bi-partisan position and adopt legislative changes to make our most vulnerable safe.
People with a disability cannot legally give evidence in court, so with no risk of conviction, abuse is rampant. Currently, vulnerable people like children and women can give evidence against their abusers in controlled and supported environments.
We ask that this right to give evidence be extended to people with a disability, and that the Victorian Parliament enforce the mandatory reporting of abuse. Lend your support to make our Members of Victorian Parliament take a bi-partisan approach to protect our most vulnerable. If South Australia can do it, so can Victoria.
*VicHealth estimates that 90 per cent of Australian women with an intellectual disability have been subjected to sexual abuse; more than two-thirds of them before turning 18 (Victorian Equal Opportunity and Human Rights Commission, Beyond doubt: the experiences of people with disabilities reporting crime).
