Ben Jacobs started this petition to Members of the Griffith Community

This petition is to ask for the Superintendent of Griffith Public Schools, Michele Riise, and the School Board to reconsider their past decisions. This petition is the result of their poor decisions that have affected teachers and students alike, from the decision to eliminate 11 positions in the HS/MS alone (also in elementary schools) along with programs such as Yearbook, Journalism, Art classes, etc. The School Board knowingly went over budget by nearly $800,000 and the teachers are feeling the effect of it. Class sizes are now capped at 40 students, making it nearly impossible teachers to teach classes, as well as students not getting the individual teaching time they need. Teachers are not being paid enough for the growing list of tasks they are asked to do, and have not seen any salary raises in the past few years to compensate, while the Superintendent has seen a salary raise in the two years she worked there. Students’ voices have been suppressed on this issue and the Supt. put tables in front of almost all exits of the HS to prevent any action, which violates many state safety codes and was a fire hazard. The list is ever-growing, so if you are a Griffith resident, a parent/guardian of Griffith students, a past or present Griffith student, or a Griffith faculty/staff member that wants to see a change in Central Office and School Board to be more pro-teacher and pro-student, PLEASE SIGN THIS PETITION!! and also attend the June 20th School Board meeting (6 pm Wiggs St Entrance GHS). Thank you, and hopefully or community we can change GPS together!
