Short-term, all virtual instruction for Flemington Raritan School Disctrict
Why this petition matters
Virtual learning is the only way to ensure the continued safety and wellbeing of our Flemington-Raritan School District students, staff, teachers and administrators.
Since Dr. McGann's email of Friday, 12/31/21, the number of COVID-19 cases in Hunterdon County have continued to skyrocket, and that number is only based on tests reported to the County Health Department. As we all know, home tests may not be reported at all, and many families are not able to find the test necessary to identify the virus. The health status of our county and our district continues to devolve, as cases resulting from holiday gatherings are just starting to be reported.
As of Friday, 12/31/21, Hunterdon Healthcare has entered "Level Red." This is a result of the "rapid increase in COVID hospitalizations and in accordance with the direction of the New Jersey Hospital Association (NJHA), hospitals in all regions of New Jersey have entered 'level red' in their visitation precautions.
'Level Red' restricts ALL visitors, except under specific circumstances. This is a necessary precaution as the daily increase in COVID-19 cases reaches new highs in New Jersey."
This increased level of vigilance in our healthcare system should be mirrored in our school system. Just as the hospitals are reducing the number of people entering the buildings, potentially spreading the highly-infectious omicron variant, so too should schools limit attendance to protect both students and staff until our community can safely reduce its local level of risk. Theoretically, a short time period (perhaps 2-4 weeks) would be enough to flatten the curve.
