Semester schedule would also prepare many students for college.

I went to Hereford and without actually having experienced a 4 period day with longer hours of class, I would not have been ready for college.

Information is learned and tested in reasonable time periods.. This could be especially helpful during this time of virtual learning.

I believe that BCPS students- especially middle school will be more successful focusing on a fewer number of classes - 4 instead of 8. Most colleges have the same type of schedules as well.

I went to Hereford high with a block schedule and loved it. Block schedule made me more prepared to college. Block schedules also allows 8 classes a year compared to 7 other schools had.

My BCPS middle and high school kids (entering 8th and 10th) would do SO much better with this. Reduced complexity of schedule and more frequent and consistent interaction with the teacher would be so helpful especially in the online environment.
They have adhd and a deeper immersion into fewer subjects would be do much better.
Lease do this!

Dr. Williams,
Please consider the semester courses for Middle School students as well. This would absolutely help build relationships with our students. I think of the 8 classes as “jack of all trades and master of none.” I believe this type of schedule would be most helpful for incoming sixth graders, some of who are coming from one teacher in fifth grade.

I would like to see this schedule implemented at the middle school level as well. Our students already struggle with a sense of belonging (see BCPS Stakeholder Data - county-wide number) and executive functioning. A daily, four course schedule would foster community, support our special needs students, and assist with accountability. The transition from elementary to middle is difficult enough for our rising 6th graders in person. Managing eight courses online - even on alternating days - may overwhelm our most vulnerable middle schoolers. The four course, semester schedule just makes sense.
