David Pellett started this petition to Members of Parliament

The number of assaults on emergency service personnel is rising and various factors have been held to be the cause e.g. coronavirus/lockdown.  Basically, it doesn't take a genius to negate such factors.  It could be that the punishments do not deter people from committing such crimes. In America, the punishment for assaulting emergency service workers is often a long term in prison.  It is evident that this does not work as the assaults are (like in this country), a daily occurrence.

The task is to find a method of preventing such unlawful actions thereby protecting the people we rely on to assist us when necessary.  As such, I believe that parliament should pass a law that could/would have a meaningful result thereby protecting such workers and the public.

My petition is that a law should be passed whereby any person that assaults a member of the emergency services carrying out their lawful tasks (be it on or off duty), the assailants full details should be retained on a data base for a period of five years from the time of the assault/conviction.  This record should result in that person not being able to use the emergency service involved (Medical, Police, Fire etc), for the period of five years.
