Kimberley Gardner started this petition to Melbourne Lord Mayor

Following a transplant, Victorian recipients and donor families have no single space to go to reflect on their life-changing experience. For recipients there is no grave site, for donor families there is no one thing connecting them to each of the anonymous recipients of their loved ones organs. These spaces can be found in other states but not here in Victoria, yet.
As I left hospital with a cadaver transplant in 2016, I was overwhelmed with an urge to shout from the rooftops or hear a 21 gun salute because someone had selflessly donated organs to better my life and those of others that they don’t even know, and probably never would. I am now an active grandmother to three gorgeous kids, something not possible if I was still confined to dialysis three times per week.
I began to envision a ‘tree of life’ sculpture in a garden in this beautiful city of Melbourne as space for reflection and thanks.
I ask for your support in petitioning the Lord Mayor of Melbourne to allocate an appropriate area for this project.
This project will be the ‘grave site’ for transplant recipients, it will be the connection for donor families and it will be a stunning visual reminder that organ donation really does save lives.
Please add your name and forward this to help the thousands of people affected each year by organ transplantation.
I sincerely hope that we can achieve our goal and begin construction on this much-needed space.
