Hazard Pay for Meggitt Polymers and Composite Rockmart Employees
Hazard Pay for Meggitt Polymers and Composite Rockmart Employees
Why this petition matters
We. the members of the International Chemical Workers Union Council of UFCW Local 90T in Rockmart, Ga are requesting from our employer, Meggitt Polymers and Composites in Rockmart, Ga hazard pay.
The Department of Labor defines the guidelines to establish hazard pay as performing work in extreme physical distress and discomfort. The company ( Meggitt PCR) has acknowledged that leaving our homes and families to come to work during this pandemic can cause "high anxiety" which is an extreme physical manifestation of distress and can cause discomfort while at work. (Policy Clarification During the Covid-19 Pandemic. March 25, 2020 pg.2.) The company recognizes the stress of leaving our families and possibly being exposed to Covid-19 due to the necessary high volume fans we need to circulate humidity, and the possibility of taking it back to our family, but refuses to close down the plant due to our "essential" status.
We recognize and appreciate Meggitt's efforts in attempting to contain the situation as best as they can, but the simple reality is, the Rockmart facility is too large in number to be achievable. Seeing as people can be carriers of the virus without showing symptoms, we run the risk of unwittingly passing it along to an "at risk" co-worker. Or just as bad, passing it along to our "at risk" family members.
Which brings us to hazard pay. We the employees of Meggitt PCR are requesting a 40 hour a week payment separate from our regular weekly pay check. The hazard pay check is to be paid at each individual employee's established pay rate. The hazard pay is to be paid on every Friday either in the form of a physical check or direct deposit. In order for the employee to receive the hazard pay, the employee must physically work 40 clocked in hours over a 5 consecutive day span. (Monday-Friday). Hazard pay is to begin immediately, and tolast as long as the pandamic does.
According to CISA, the workers of MPCR have been deemed "Essential Critical Infrastructure Workers". Workers who support the essential services required to meet national security commitments. We are honored to be called essentials, especially in times like these. We are asking you to pay us as such.
If you are an employee of Meggitt Polymers and Composites in Rockmart,Ga, on the active payroll, you are more than welcome to sign. If you are not, please refrain from signing.
Thank you very much for your support!
