Medway Council have blocked Hedgehogs Childcare from restoring the former Green Lion Pub and transforming it in to a beautiful Childcare setting for local families. 

This much needed childcare facility would have provided high quality, bespoke care and education for 40 children a day who will now be without a childcare place.  The nursery would have also provided over 15 jobs as well as apprenticeship opportunities for the local community. 

The nursery would have offered the children of Rainham a rich, unique early education experience underpinned by Hedgehogs Pedagogy where children spend a lot of the day outside engaged in adventurous play, cooking their own meals, exploring and discovering through natural resources and real artifacts. 

Becoming part of the community is central to the Hedgehogs way including multigenerational learning with their local care homes, visiting the local library and utilising the diverse range of local business's on the doorstep.  Hedgehogs is committed to sustainability, empowering children to  become mindful of the planet for future generations and was hoping to work in partnership with Rainham eco hub.
