Please sign this petition, community carers/ social care workers need parking permits. FREE carer parking permits. We work long hours looking after parents, Grandparents, Aunties and Uncles...sometimes people need support to live in their own homes.  We provide that support, we use our own cars, our own fuel and insurance. The majority of my local community is blanketed by zoned parking. If we have no permits we park far away and walk the remaining distance to prevent getting a parking ticket. This makes us feel unsafe, especially early mornings and late at night.

Medway council use parking enforcement ticketing to control excess vehicals in zones, to control where we can and cannot park our cars. I feel very strongly about the fact we are there working (for 30 mins to 1 hour) we are helping someone to bed, we are ensuring medication is taken, we are ensuring health, happiness and wellbeing.  We should not be at risk of getting a parking ticket whilst doing this job!  We should be able to claim a parking permit that allows us to park close to a service users home, which is encouraging a safe entry to a service users home. The Lone Workers policy also promotes this. Walking through alleys and back streets trying to park your car at 10pm at night is not safe.

A carer permit is currently £40 from medway council.  We use our own vehicals, fuel insurance and tax plus the cost of keeping a car on the road. Must we really pay another £40 a year to be able to attend areas restricted by zoned parking permits.
