Prohibit Young Children From Mugrage Dog Park
With increasing frequency, toddlers and young children are being brought into the off-leash large dog area in Mugrage Park in Medina, Ohio. This is a clearly dangerous situation and we don't want to see a child seriously injured.
By supporting this petition, we are requesting prohibiting children under 10 years of age from entering the off-leash dog park area.
Not every dog resides in a household alongside a child. And not every dog is comfortable with a toddler who, by nature, moves erratically and awkwardly, utters high-pitched sounds, and frequently carries objects in their hands, be it a stick, drink, or even food. Additionally, these children have no awareness of a dog’s body language and have no problem running towards the dog with arms wide open.
I’ve seen adults get taken out at the knee by multiple 100+ pound dogs chasing each other at top speed. As a adults, we generally know how to react. Children? No so much. Even if the child's guardians aren't liable for their injuries, it is not fair to the dogs.
Mugrage is a wonderful place with a variety of safe, family friendly places for children to enjoy. Why are we allowing small children in a potentially unsafe environment where the dog's owner is liable for the child’s safety?
