I had a breast exam done by my doctor last week, and they found lumps in my breasts, so I was sent for for a breast ultrasound, only to find that there was an out-of-pocket cost because I was under 30 years old, and breast cancer is uncommon in people of my age range.
I am currently studying, so I'm not working, and the cost almost made it so I couldn't have my scan done, and now I'm being told that I need more scans and tests.
For people who are in low-income households, these fees may mean the difference between life and death if a person actually has breast cancer and is unable to pay for the scans.
I want breast scans and screenings to be covered by Medicare for anybody who needs them because their doctor believes they need them.
