These days, it is disheartening how Nigerian medical doctors are made to work worse than slaves, working actively for 24 hours at a stretch and still working the next morning making it working about 36 hours at a stretch averagely when they are on call duty, this is unhealthy and as well dangerous for both the doctor and the patient as these doctors become chronically exhausted and also much more emotionally fatigued, resulting in a significant number of doctors, these days, being viewed as cranky. This effect of overwork in turn negatively impacts the quality of healthcare received by patients as well as how patients feel after seeing a doctor and in the long run the level of interest future generations would have in wanting to be medical doctors, thus harbinging further shortage of medical doctors in the future, compounding the braindrain the chronic overwork has also partially played a roll in creating.

It would be of great benefit to healthcare service delivery of the country if legislation is made to pass a law to put an end to this emergent human right abuse of doctors working for more than 24 hours.
